The learning curve

Most beginners lay acceptable MIG beads within an hour: the machine feeds wire, you only manage torch angle, stick-out and speed. The skill ceiling is real — thin sheet, aluminium and position work — but the entry ramp is the friendliest of any process.

Fastest way to improve

  • Weld on scrap of the same thickness you'll actually work
  • One variable at a time: amps, then speed, then torch angle
  • Chisel, brush and LOOK at every bead — the wreck tells you what to fix
  • Short daily sessions beat monthly marathons
