MIG welding
How hard is mig welding to learn?
Quick answer
MIG welding is the easiest process to learn. Expect same-day usable beads.
The learning curve
Most beginners lay acceptable MIG beads within an hour: the machine feeds wire, you only manage torch angle, stick-out and speed. The skill ceiling is real — thin sheet, aluminium and position work — but the entry ramp is the friendliest of any process.
Fastest way to improve
- Weld on scrap of the same thickness you'll actually work
- One variable at a time: amps, then speed, then torch angle
- Chisel, brush and LOOK at every bead — the wreck tells you what to fix
- Short daily sessions beat monthly marathons
