How do I clean a MIG liner?
Quick answer
Pull the liner, blow it out with compressed air, feed a liner-cleaning felt pellet through if you have one, check for kinks, and re-install with the correct trim length. Erratic feed that survives a new contact tip is usually the liner complaining.
Symptoms of a tired liner
- Feed stutter that persists after tip replacement
- Bird-nesting at the drive rolls
- Arc wander despite a fresh tip
- Wire 'chirping' at the torch neck
